The University of Augsburg has earned itself an excellent reputation in the field of resource efficiency in the last few years. A further research building is now to be built on the campus. It is planned to make optimal use of intersections in research on an area of almost six thousand square metres. The "Materials & Resources" institute and the "Production & Software" department will move into the building. In addition, rooms are planned for the new courses of study "Industrial Engineering and Management" and "Engineering Informatics", as well as for professors of the University of Applied Sciences.
The office Code Unique Architects from Dresden won the competition with the design of a compact three-storey building with clear edges on the outside. INOCLAD Engineering supplies the facades for the building complex, which initially appears rather austere due to the replacement of closed wall panes with integrated cladding elements made of expanded metal on the one hand and glazed elements on the other. At the same time, however, the uniform sequence of vertical elements gives the building a calm and distinctive appearance.
The interior use of the building is divided into three courtyards. One of them opens to the east on the ground floor and leads into an incision in the building, which presents itself from the outside as a high-quality entrance and attractive main entrance.
